Join the Team

For Editors

Join the founding editorial team of The Practical Medicine — we are recruiting editors and reviewers committed to rigorous, open-access biomedical publishing.

Shape the Journal From the Ground Up

The Practical Medicine is a journal at its founding stage, and we are actively recruiting editors who want to help build something meaningful. Founding editors have a rare opportunity to influence the journal's scientific direction, editorial culture, and long-term identity from day one.

If you are a researcher or clinician who cares about the integrity of science and the principles of open access, we want to hear from you.

Editorial Roles

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief provides overall scientific and strategic leadership for the journal. This role involves setting editorial policy, making final decisions on manuscripts, representing the journal to the research community, and overseeing the recruitment and development of the editorial board. The Editor-in-Chief works closely with the editorial office on all matters of publication ethics and journal development.

Associate Editor

Associate Editors manage the peer review process for manuscripts within their area of expertise. This involves inviting reviewers, evaluating reports, and making publication recommendations. Associate Editors are the primary point of contact for authors during the review process and play a direct role in upholding the journal's scientific standards.

Editorial Board Member

Editorial Board Members serve as scientific advisors and ambassadors for the journal. Their responsibilities may include handling selected manuscripts, suggesting reviewers, contributing invited commentaries or reviews, advising on scope and policy, and promoting the journal within their institutions and professional communities.

Statistical Editor

Statistical Editors provide specialist review of the methodological and statistical components of submitted manuscripts. They assess study design, sample size justification, the appropriateness of analytical methods, and the accuracy of reported statistical outputs.

What We Look For

We welcome applications from individuals across career stages and geographic regions. Candidates should generally:

  • Hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant biomedical or clinical discipline
  • Have a record of peer-reviewed publication in their field
  • Be actively engaged in research, clinical practice, or academic scholarship
  • Be familiar with publication ethics principles as defined by COPE and ICMJE
  • Be willing to commit reasonable and consistent time to editorial responsibilities

Early-career researchers with strong publication and review records are encouraged to apply. We are particularly keen to build a board that reflects the global diversity of the biomedical research community.
